The Registrar-General of the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN), Henry Mbadiwe, has issued a final warning to individuals and organisations practising project management in Nigeria without the Institute’s licence, adding that it will start clamping down on unlicensed project managers.
Mbadiwe, who spoke in Abuja on Monday at a press conference, noted that it has become common for some Nigerians and foreigners to break the law and expect to go unpunished.
“They believe nothing will happen because they know someone high up in government.
Mbadiwe said according to the law establishing CIPMN, no individual is allowed to practise or teach project management in Nigeria unless certified and licensed by the institute.
“That certificate, if it is not approved by CIPMN, cannot make you a project manager in this country,” he said.
“The same goes to the Project Management Institute in Nigeria; your certificates and training centres must be accredited by CIPMN. This is the law that for you to handle projects and do business in Nigeria, CIPMN must certify you,” he added.
He further stated that enforcement teams are already active in Lagos and Abuja and will be expanding to different states of the country.
