Customs warns public of fake recruitment, disowns CBT schedule
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has discredited a recruitment press release currently circulating online, warning that the purported shortlist for a Computer-Based Test (CBT) scheduled for July 2025 is false and did not originate from the agency.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Assistant Comptroller of Customs and National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the NCS said the document being shared on social media and messaging platforms is fraudulent and misleading.
“The NCS wishes to categorically state that the said press release is fraudulent, misleading, and did not emanate from the Nigeria Customs Service. At no time did the Service issue any such announcement regarding a CBT slated to take place in July 2025,” the statement read.
The agency said that a closer look at the fake document reveals inconsistencies, especially in the formatting and electronic signature, which differ from the NCS’s official communication standards. It also pointed out that the recruitment timeline presented in the fake announcement does not align with any legitimate process being undertaken by the Service.
Acknowledging the high level of public interest in its ongoing recruitment exercise, the NCS urged Nigerians to disregard and avoid sharing the false information. It emphasized that verified updates on recruitment or any other official activity would only be published through its official website, verified social media accounts, and recognised national newspapers.
“The Service is taking steps to trace the origin of this false information and will take appropriate action to hold those responsible accountable. When the Service is set to begin the next phase of the recruitment process, the public will be duly notified through appropriate channels,” the statement added.
Maiwada thanked members of the public for their vigilance and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to transparency and integrity in all its operations.
