Cunha Strike Hands Manchester United Late Win Over Arsenal

Manchester United claimed a dramatic 3–2 victory over league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, dealing a fresh twist to the Premier League title race.

United sealed the win in the 87th minute when substitute Matheus Cunha curled a 25-yard strike into the bottom corner after receiving a pass from Kobbie Mainoo. The result continued an impressive run under interim manager Michael Carrick and narrowed the gap at the top of the table on January 25, 2026.

Arsenal had taken the lead in the 29th minute through an own goal by Lisandro Martínez, who deflected Martin Ødegaard’s cross past his own goalkeeper. The hosts controlled long spells of the opening half but failed to extend their advantage.

United drew level before the interval when Bryan Mbeumo capitalised on a misplaced pass by Martin Zubimendi, finishing calmly to ensure both sides went into halftime on even terms. The equaliser also ended Arsenal’s bid to surpass a long-standing league record.

Momentum swung in United’s favour early in the second half as Patrick Dorgu struck a spectacular volley that crashed in off the underside of the crossbar to put the visitors 2–1 ahead. Arsenal responded with increased pressure and were rewarded in the 84th minute when Mikel Merino bundled home from a corner.

Just as the match appeared set for a draw, Cunha produced the decisive moment, cutting inside and firing home a curling effort to secure a crucial three points for Manchester United.

The win lifts United into fourth place in the Premier League standings, moving them above Chelsea on goal difference, while Arsenal’s lead at the summit has been reduced to four points. The result adds renewed intensity to the title race involving Arsenal and challengers such as Manchester_United.
