CSO Issues Fiery Demand: Politicians Must Cease Distracting President Tinubu!

The Civil Society Organisations on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI) has issued a strong appeal to political actors and various stakeholders, urging them to cease activities that distract President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration. The organization emphasized the critical need for collaborative efforts to foster national unity and progress. In a statement disseminated by its director-general, Kunle Yusuff, CSCHEI expressed profound concern over what it described as an increasing wave of criticisms and politically motivated attacks targeting the President. These actions, according to the group, constitute unnecessary distractions that could significantly impede the government's development initiatives and the realization of its goals.
Yusuff articulated CSCHEI’s stance on the nature of public discourse, noting that while constructive criticism forms an indispensable part of a vibrant democracy, criticisms that are malicious, self-serving, or unfounded have the detrimental effect of derailing effective governance and eroding public confidence in the administration. He specifically called upon "desperate and furious politicians" to channel their energies into generating actionable and pragmatic ideas that can genuinely contribute to the advancement of President Tinubu’s 'Renewed Hope Agenda' and subsequently enhance the welfare and living conditions of all Nigerians. The organization implored all stakeholders to move beyond partisan rhetoric and instead offer concrete suggestions that align with and support the President’s overarching vision and policies aimed at improving citizens' lives. It further stressed that politicians ought to prioritize constructive engagement and lend support to government initiatives rather than engaging in the dissemination of falsehoods and misinformation.
Beyond political figures, CSCHEI also directed an appeal to the broader Nigerian populace, urging them to elevate national interests above individual ambitions. The organization implored citizens to actively desist from any actions or behaviors that could potentially sow seeds of division or escalate tensions within the national polity. According to CSCHEI, the complex and vital process of nation-building is fundamentally dependent upon a foundation of unity, sustained cooperation, and an environment conducive to honest and open dialogue among citizens, the government, and civil society entities.
In addition to its calls to politicians and citizens, the organization also provided guidance for Civil Society and Community-Based Organizations (CSOs and CBOs). CSCHEI encouraged these groups to uphold the highest standards of integrity in their advocacy efforts and to adopt rigorously fact-based approaches when interacting with government institutions. The statement highlighted the importance of CSOs and CBOs conducting thorough fact-finding missions before presenting their submissions and designing advocacy programs that directly yield tangible benefits for the masses, ensuring their work is impactful and well-informed.
Furthermore, CSCHEI extended a specific recommendation to President Tinubu himself: to fortify and enhance the existing monitoring and evaluation frameworks designed to assess the performance of his Cabinet members. The group posited that such robust systems are crucial for identifying ministers or other appointees who might be neglecting their official responsibilities in favor of pursuing personal political ambitions, particularly with an eye towards the 2027 general elections. CSCHEI explicitly advised that individuals who prioritize their personal political interests over their mandated ministerial duties should be held fully accountable for their actions and, if deemed necessary, should be relieved of their positions to ensure effective governance.
Concluding its comprehensive statement, the Civil Society Organisations on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to championing transparency, accountability, and principles of good governance within Nigeria. The organization pledged its continued commitment to serving as a vital intermediary, bridging the gap between citizens and the government in the collective pursuit of sustainable national development. CSCHEI reiterated its resolve to collaborate actively with the government and all relevant stakeholders to advance the President’s 'Renewed Hope Agenda' and ensure that the diverse voices and aspirations of the Nigerian masses are not only heard but also genuinely addressed.
