Critical Warning: Anti-Spider Hack Hospitalizes Toddler, Parents Urged to Be Cautious

A mother has issued a severe warning to other parents following a terrifying incident where her two-year-old son was hospitalized after accidentally consuming a minimal amount of peppermint oil. Elessame shared her experience on TikTok, aiming to caution against using this common household product, often touted as a natural anti-spider hack, especially around young children.
Elessame recounted how she had a nearly empty bottle of peppermint essential oil, which she used in a spray bottle to deter spiders from around doors and skirting boards. Despite the bottle being almost empty, it still contained a tiny drop. As she turned, the straw applicator from the bottle brushed her son's lip, causing him to react immediately, trying to get it off.
Reacting swiftly, Elessame attempted to wash out the oil by brushing his teeth, giving him water, and wiping the inside of his mouth. However, upon checking online, she discovered advice to contact the emergency department. She called 111, initially expecting to be told to monitor him at home, but was instructed to take him to her local A&E within the hour.
