Court Greenlights Jonathan's Shock 2027 Presidential Bid

Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has officially declared former President Goodluck Jonathan eligible to contest in the 2027 general elections. This significant ruling was delivered during a judgment in a suit filed by an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Jideobi Johnmary. The plaintiff's suit aimed to prevent Jonathan from participating in any future presidential election, asserting that he had already taken the oath of office twice as president.

Justice Lifu, however, dismissed the suit unequivocally, citing it as an abuse of court process. He further elaborated that the suit constituted a waste of the court’s valuable time, given that both the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal had previously resolved the matter of Jonathan's eligibility. Justice Lifu firmly stated, “I am bound by the above decision of the Court of Appeal and this court, I have no more to add.”

In addition to dismissing the suit, Justice Lifu imposed substantial costs against the plaintiff. A sum of N20 million was slammed against Jideobi Johnmary in favour of former President Goodluck Jonathan, while an additional N1 million was awarded in favour of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
