Mrema and his wife Joana were attacked on Wednesday morning, January 15, in an unforgettable experience.

Around 6am, Mrema left the house and headed to the chicken shed to feed the animals, as he had always done.

He was unaware that some young men had hidden themselves, waiting to pounce on him, oblivious to their presence.

"I heard quick footsteps, and before I could turn back, I was hit on the head. I saw one person with a panga raising it. He told me to be silent, and almost immediately, he hit my hand as I protected my head. They picked me up and took me into the house. My wife and child were in the bedroom," he narrated.

Joana and their seven-month-old baby were brought to the living room, where they joined Mrema.

The young men ransacked the whole house, putting every valuable item in various bags.

"They asked for our phones and commanded us to remove our passwords. They wanted us to transfer money, but we showed them our accounts and the little we had. They took me out, leaving my wife and child behind," Mrema said.

Mrema was hand-tied and thrown into a hole he was building for a latrine, which he closed with some tiles.

He said they also took his wife and threw him in a hole with their child behind, left in the house alone.

"I was to see a client, but because of my situation, I could not, so he sent his errand boy to look for me. He is the one who bailed me from the hole as we contacted the police to begin a search for my wife.
She was also thrown into a deep pit, where we found her late evening. I was shattered when she told me she was not with our child and the child was not at home. We are worried about the whereabouts of our missing child," he painfully stated.

The couple's plight moved social media users as they reacted in the comment section.

In another story, Alice was expected at the Rarieda Sub County Children's Department office together with her child and the child's father after alleging the man was not providing for the baby.

They were to show up on Thursday, January 9, but none were present, and they went missing since then.

Alice's brother, Reuben Okello Onyango, narrated the events before his sister and her child went missing.
