Companies Selling the Most AI Chips — A Look at Who’s Powering the AI Boom
The global race for artificial intelligence infrastructure is accelerating, but one company continues to stand far ahead.
New data from Epoch AI’s Chip Sales database, visualized by Visual Capitalist, shows that in Q4 2025, Nvidia shipped nearly two-thirds of all measured AI compute capacity, more than all its closest competitors combined.
Using “H100 equivalents”, a standardized metric based on Nvidia’s flagship AI GPU, here are the companies leading the AI chip market right now.
Nvidia — 2,957,362 Units
Nvidia isn’t just leading the AI chip market; it is defining it. With nearly 3 million H100-equivalent shipments in Q4 2025, Nvidia accounted for the majority of global AI compute capacity.
Its dominance is driven by early investment in GPU computing, strong developer ecosystems, and its central role in powering generative AI models.
From data centers to AI research labs, Nvidia chips remain the default infrastructure behind the current AI boom.
Google — 976,313 Units
Google sits firmly in second place, though still far behind Nvidia. Through its custom Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), Google has built a strong internal AI ecosystem, powering products like Search, Cloud AI, and large language models.
While its chips are not as widely distributed commercially as Nvidia’s, Google’s scale and integration give it a unique competitive position.
AMD — 226,485 Units
AMD is emerging as a serious challenger, but the gap remains significant. With just over 226,000 units shipped, AMD represents part of a growing second tier of AI chip makers.
Its MI-series accelerators are gaining traction, especially among companies looking to diversify away from Nvidia dependency. Still, AMD’s presence in the AI compute market is only a fraction of Nvidia’s.
Amazon — 221,354 Units
Amazon, through its AWS infrastructure, is quietly building its own AI chip ecosystem. Its custom chips, including Trainium and Inferentia, are designed to reduce reliance on third-party providers while optimizing cloud-based AI workloads.
While Amazon’s numbers are close to AMD’s, its chips are largely used within its own cloud environment rather than sold broadly.
Huawei — 131,964 Units
Despite global restrictions, Huawei remains a notable player in the AI chip space. With nearly 132,000 units shipped, the company continues to develop its Ascend AI chips, primarily for the Chinese market.
While its global reach is limited, Huawei’s presence signals ongoing competition in regional AI ecosystems.
The Bigger Picture: A Market Expanding, But Still Concentrated
While more companies are entering the AI chip market, the data reveals a clear reality: AI compute power is still heavily concentrated at the top.
Nvidia’s shipments alone exceed the combined total of every other company on the list. This level of dominance raises a critical question for the industry:
Will competitors eventually close the gap, or is Nvidia’s early lead strong enough to secure long-term control over the AI infrastructure layer?
For now, the answer remains clear. The AI boom may be global, but the power behind it is still largely centralized.
