Comment on Aston Martin DBX707 Offers Supercar Performance with Plentiful Seating by Track Day at COTA with the 2025 Maserati Lineup - Jesus Behind the Wheel

It’s a rare accomplishment when you can market a vehicle to financial success through well placed product placement in media. When Burt Reynolds drove a 1977 black Trans Am in Smokey and the Bandit, Pontiac saw an increase of 25,000 units for the Trans Ams in 1978. Vin Diesel’s Fast and Furious Dom Toretto has certainly played a part in moving Dodge Chargers and Challengers off the lot (many without paperwork).

But they can’t hold a candle to the lifestyle fantasy Ian Fleming’s James Bond ignitied when he stepped into an Aston Martin on the big screen. A name symbolic with top shelf luxury, exotic grand tours, and shaken cocktails since 1962.

The debuted in 2020 as the brand’s first SUV and first all-wheel-drive vehicle with off-road capability. Since then, the brand celebrated its 100th birthday in 2023, and the DBX has continued to be a high-dollar option for those looking for an ultra-luxurious, grand touring supercar with leg room for five people- plus luggage.

When Aston Martin asked if I wanted to take the latest DBX707 out for a spin, I thought it was a cruel prank. My disbelief continued until I felt the weighted key fob drop into my hand. Carefully climbing into the green leather interior being careful not to get my humble middle-class stank on the upholstery. Reaching for the glovebox to check its monroney label. The nervous butterflies in my stomach were instantly vaporized by acid reflux when I saw the price tag for this British luxury SUV.

At nearly $300,000 (with options), this is the most expensive vehicle I’ve been entrusted to operate in my career as an automotive journalist. Driving it home from work on the first day of the road test, I was sweating ice on a Texas summer day, worrying about the protecting the pristine condition of this beautiful DBX707. Anxious knowing that my liability-only car insurance policy my only financial defense if any harm came to this 23-inch wheel high roller.

But ultra-luxury is unsurprisingly easy to get accustomed to, like acclimating to a heated pool or cutting into a perfectly cooked steak. After the first day, I had my bearings and focused on the SUV’s outstanding performance, alluring interior cabin, while relishing the envious stares from BMW and Porsche drivers.

Fun fact: the DBX has the largest grille ever fitted on an Aston Martin, bearing the wide, shiny, grin of someone trying to sell you a timeshare. In other parts of the world, the SUV is marketed as a full-size model, but our value-sized US standards consider the DBX707 a mid-size SUV.

The sculpted, European-cut fit exterior styling gives it an athletic presence making it look smaller than other high-performance SUVs. Moreover, the exterior’s styling features all the cues of a go-faster product like large air intakes, flared wheel arches, and a duck tail roof spoiler that tips the swooping roofline like a freshly combed pompadour.

Dressed in the optional Racing Line green paint color ($8,400), it acted as a lasso that captured people’s attention and pulls tight.

The lovely shade of green was complemented by yellow-painted carbon ceramic brake calipers ($1,800) tucked behind the upgraded 23-inch forged satin black / diamond-turned wheels ($5,900). However, like other sport utility vehicles crafted by supercar OEMs, the DBX707 looks like an Aston Martin coupe stretched to fit the dimensions of an SUV.

Inside, the 2024 Aston Martin DBX707’s interior came appointed in duotone upholstery ($8,400) with a Q Special green leather color ($6,500). Grabbing a steering wheel result in feeling a mix of leather and Alcantara ($1,00). The dashboard features a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.2-inch infotainment screen in the center. But, the model year, available now, features a redesigned interior layout compared to the 2024 model shown.

The decision to redo the interior cabin came straight from the Aston Martin’s CEO after the media and customers complained about the outdated and quirky layout of the 2024 DBX. For starters, the 2024 Aston Martin SUV has a push button gear selection located on top of the infotainment screen in the center of the dashboard. So, to select drive, park or reverse you must extend your arm and reach out to press a button, which could be a problem if you have short arms.

Moreover, the infotainment screen is not touch-sensitive. It can only be controlled using buttons on the steering wheel, a rotary knob on the center console, or a small touchpad located behind the knob. Three methods to navigate one screen and it’s still awkward to use.

For 2025, Aston Martin improved the DBX’s interior by getting rid of the center dash push button gear selector for a more user-friendly center console shift lever, leading to a redesigned dashboard. Plus, a new steering wheel, upgraded infotainment software, and the option to have a 23-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

The 707 attached to the DBX name represents its derived twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 power output. If you use the metric unit for measuring horsepower (PS or PferdeStarke), the output figure comes out to 707 hp, which is equivalent to 697 hp here in the United States. However, DBX707 rolls off the tongue smoother than DBX697. Nevertheless, what this math jargon translates to in the world of physics is an SUV that can travel from zero to 60 in 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 193 mph.

The best thing about the DBX707 supercar performance is how it vocalizes its acceleration through a set of dual double-barrel exhaust system further amplified by pushing a little button on the console labeled with an icon of an exhaust tip. Put your foot in it, and this thing unleashes a Barry White baritone rumble that’ll stir the blood into an adrenaline frenzy.

When you add an adaptive air suspension, an all-wheel drive system with an active transfer case, a 9-speed automatic transmission and massive carbon ceramic brakes, you get a super SUV that can talk the talk and walk the walk when it comes to dynamic driving characteristics. If you’re curious about fuel economy, it averages 17 mpg using only the finest premium fuel.

With a starting price of a quarter million, the Aston Martin DBX707 is not intended to be a modest purchase. However, if you’re in a fortunate position and want a super family hauler that stands out better than a Mercedes-AMG G-Wagon with the same proven German engineering, the DBX707 will tickle your fancy.
