COMEDY JAM

Johannesburg, South Africa — Prepare for a night of unforgettable laughter as the Comedy
Jam brings together some of South Africa’s most celebrated comedic talents under one roof.
Taking place on Friday, 2 August at the prestigious Houghton Hotel, this one-night-only event
promises world-class stand-up comedy and razor-sharp wit from a line-up of national treasures.

Schalk Bezuidenhout, David Kau, Alan Committie, Mark Banks, and Chris Forrest — each
a pioneer in their own right and a master of the mic.
Set in the heart of Johannesburg, Comedy Jam honours the city’s iconic role in shaping South
African stand-up. From smoky jazz clubs to theatre stages, Jozi has long been the breeding
ground for boundary-pushing humour and biting social commentary — and Comedy Jam
continues that proud legacy with a line-up of legends who have sold out stadiums, broken
boundaries, and built careers that span decades.

Schalk Bezuidenhout
Known for his quirky style, signature moustache, and unapologetic honesty, Schalk is one of the
most beloved names in SA comedy today. A two-time SAFTA nominee, he has performed
across the globe and has a knack for bridging cultural divides through sharp observational
humour.

A trailblazer in local comedy, David Kau made history as the first Black comedian to perform at
the Smirnoff Comedy Festival in 1998. His satirical take on race, politics, and daily life has made
him a household name and a fearless voice in the comedy scene.

With over two decades on stage, Alan is a master of character comedy, improv, and physical
humour. Known for his hit one-man shows like Defending the Caveman and Classy Clown, he’s
a true theatre veteran with a flair for intellect and silliness in equal measure.

A living legend in South African comedy, Mark Banks has been making audiences laugh for
over 30 years. Known for his biting wit and fearless satire, he’s a regular on stage and TV, often
skewering politics, pop culture, and the absurdities of modern life.

Deadpan delivery meets whip-smart material — Chris Forrest has carved out a niche as one of
SA’s most consistently hilarious acts. From Strictly Come Dancing to Celebrity MasterChef SA
(which he won!), Chris brings heart, humour, and surprising versatility to every stage he graces.
Whether you’re a long-time fan or discovering these comedy giants for the first time, this is your
chance to experience the best of local stand-up in a single night of electric entertainment.
Guests can also enjoy a full bar and food service on-site, with convenient underground parking
available directly at The Houghton Hotel.
