Chris Brown Pleads Not Guilty to Additional Charges In Alleged London Nightclub Bottle Attack

US R&B star Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to two additional charges related to an alleged bottle attack on music producer Abraham Diaw at a London nightclub in February 2023.

Appearing at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, the 36-year-old denied causing actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon, a tequila bottle, during the alleged assault at Soho’s Tape nightclub.

These charges come on top of an earlier count of attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH), to which Brown had already pleaded not guilty. He is due to stand trial in October 2026.

The prosecution described the incident as “unprovoked,” claiming the victim was struck multiple times while standing at the bar. Brown’s co-defendant, 39-year-old American performer Omololu Akinlolu, known as HoodyBaby, has also pleaded not guilty to both the ABH and GBH charges.

Wearing a brown suit and dark-rimmed glasses, Brown briefly waved and touched his chest upon arrival at court, receiving vocal support from around 20 fans in the public gallery.

He was arrested in May at the Lowry Hotel in Salford while preparing for his European tour and spent nearly a week in custody before securing bail by posting a £5 million security fee.

As part of his bail conditions, Brown must reside in the UK, surrender his passport, and comply with a special arrangement allowing him to travel for scheduled performances. His Breezy Bowl XX tour began in Amsterdam on 8 June and concluded its European leg in Paris last weekend, with the North American stretch set to begin later this month.

Brown, one of the most recognisable names in American R&B, has won two Grammy Awards and scored 19 UK top 10 hits.
