Nollywood actress Chioma Okafor, celebrated for her role as Megan in A Frenzy of Emotions, hosted a free acting workshop in Surulere recently, mentoring over 60 aspiring actors from underserved communities.

Organised with the Lagos Creative Arts Foundation, the event provided practical training in acting techniques.

Okafor, a 2018 graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, shared insights from her career, which began with Superstory: Monica (2019). “I want to help others find their path in Nollywood,” she said.

Participants practiced improvisation and character development, drawing from her roles like Valerie in Turning Tables with Uche Nwaefuna and Kiki in Almost a Virgin with Bimbo Ademoye.

“Chioma showed us how to bring authenticity to our performances,” said attendee, Chidi Okeke, 20. Okafor invited casting directors to provide feedback, and the workshop, supported by local NGOs, offered resources like scripts and cameras. Her role as Ogechi in My Crazy Ex and Girlfriend alongside Maurice Sam was used to teach emotional depth.

Okafor’s filmography, including Life of Angela and The Choirmaster’s Wife, reflects her versatility. Her 2022 Nigeria Women Achievers Award for Nollywood New Actress underscores her impact. With plans for more workshops, Okafor is nurturing Nollywood’s next generation.
