China Launches New Internet Satellite Constellation

China announced the successful launch of a new group of low Earth orbit satellites on Friday, June 6, 2025. The deployment took place from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, located in north China's Shanxi Province, marking another significant achievement in the nation's expanding space program.

The satellites were carried into space by a modified Long March-6 carrier rocket. This rocket was observed blasting off from the launch center at precisely 4:45 a.m. Beijing Time, tasked with delivering the satellite group to its intended orbital path.

This particular group of satellites is the fourth installment planned to constitute a comprehensive internet constellation. Following the launch, officials confirmed that the satellites successfully entered their preset orbit. This constellation is a key component of China's efforts to establish a robust space-based internet infrastructure.

The mission also represented a notable milestone, being the 580th flight for the Long March series of carrier rockets. This long history underscores the reliability and central role of the Long March rockets in supporting China's diverse space activities, from scientific missions to infrastructure deployment.
