Chilling Discovery: Gun & Ammo Uncovered at Salford Nursery, Suspect Identified

A man has been formally charged with multiple firearms and drug offences following a police raid on a recently-closed nursery in Salford, where a gun and a substantial quantity of ammunition were discovered. Officers from Greater Manchester Police, acting on intelligence, executed a search warrant at the building of the former Mini Fingers Day Nursery on Liverpool Road in Irlam on Wednesday evening, October 7.

During the search, police found a firearm and a significant amount of ammunition inside the premises. Two men were arrested in connection with the discovery. One of the individuals, 38-year-old Christopher Maxwell of Manor Road, Sale, has since been charged. Mr. Maxwell faces charges of possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate, and possession of class A drugs, specifically cocaine. He was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on October 10. The second man, aged in his 50s, who was also arrested, has been released on bail pending further enquiries, according to a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police.

The police investigation is unrelated to the reasons behind the nursery's recent closure. Mini Fingers Day Nursery had been ordered to shut down earlier the same week due to a severe rat infestation. Salford Council’s environmental health department issued a prohibition order on Friday, October 2, after inspectors found vermin within the building on Liverpool Road. Parents were subsequently informed via email that the nursery would be permanently closing on Monday, October 5. The email attributed the closure to “recent events and the business struggling,” with the owner reportedly not seeing “a way forward without the business being extremely out of pocket.” The nursery manager expressed devastation over the closure.
