Children, Teens Learn about Money at Delta Community’s Cool Cash Money Camps
After a series of games and interactive lessons focused on money management, children and teens who participated in Delta Community Credit Union’s Cool Cash Money Camps walked away more financially savvy.
Since 2014, Delta Community has organized the annual camps at select branches during the summer. The Credit Union held camps at two locations in Fayette County this year. Local families took advantage of the camps held at the credit union’s Peachtree City branch at 315 Highway 74 North on June 17, and its Fayetteville branch at 140 Highway 92 South on June 25.
The interactive workshops allowed parents to join their children in learning essential financial skills and concepts. Representatives from Delta Community led two workshops at each location, which featured curriculum based on age-appropriate National Literacy Standards. One session was tailored to elementary school-aged students, and taught them about the basics of earning, saving and spending money. Another workshop was geared towards middle school-aged students and engaged them in real-life budgeting scenarios and decision-making exercises.
Parents were asked to fill out surveys after each workshop.
A parent, whose child attended the elementary school-aged session, said: “Great games and great engagement. Learning to distinguish long-term and short-term goals was very effective.”
Another parent left the following comment after their child attended the middle school-aged workshop: “The most effective part of the camp was identifying areas of needs to apply income. This showed my child how to prioritize these things.”
