Published 12 hours ago2 minute read

A school reunion held in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Saturday was cut short after an unidentified suspect opened fire, leaving some of the event's attendees injured.

Authorities from the city are now hunting for the shooter but have not yet released a description of the individual. However, officials are reassuring the public that there are currently no threats to the public that exist.

Officials said that four individuals were shot and injured at the scene and were taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening wounds. One eyewitness, Jeoff Herman, said that everybody at the school reunion was just having a good time before the shooting.

He added that people suddenly heard gunfire, and others were panicking, leaving little children and babies on the ground. Authorities reported that the incident took place at around 3:00 p.m. local time, according to the New York Post.

The Chattanooga Police Department's Homicide Unit took the lead in the investigation of the case while the Crime Scene Unit processed evidence that was found at the scene of the crime. Officials also noted that a preliminary investigation suggests there was a fight that took place before the shooting.

In a release on Sunday, police said that investigators were working to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting. They are also collecting all items that could shed more light on what happened, including but not limited to physical evidence, interviews, and potential video footage, Yahoo News reported.

The incident comes after two people were killed and three others were injured in a shooting in Kentucky on July 13, 2025. That particular incident involved a Kentucky State Police trooper who pulled over a vehicle on the road after receiving a license plate reader alert in the area.

However, the suspect then shot the trooper, fled the scene of the crime, and later carjacked a different vehicle. Fortunately, the trooper in question was in stable condition and was able to receive medical treatment.

Officers then tracked the carjacked vehicle to the Richmond Road Baptist Church, where the suspect opened fire at people on the property. Four individuals were struck, including two women who were later pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims were men who were brought to a local hospital to be treated.

Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn later identified the two fatalities as 72-year-old Beverly Gumm and 32-year-old Kristina Combs, as per USA Today.
