The Chairman of the Ashanti Region chapter of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), Suleiman Yeboah, has outlined the new safety measures being implemented in schools following a recent shooting incident at Adventist Senior High School (SHS) in Kumasi.

The tragic event, in which a second-year student shot a classmate, has raised serious concerns about student safety in schools across the region.

Speaking on the Joy, Mr Yeboah discussed the steps being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

"This time, we are adopting a more comprehensive approach to security," he stated, emphasising that this response is part of a broader effort to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

He revealed that the Ghana Education Service has issued clear directives, which are being actively implemented across schools.

"We've received guidelines from the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, and we are already putting these measures into action," Mr Yeboah explained.

He confidently shared that schools, including Adventist Senior High in Bantama, have begun conducting surprise searches on students, their dormitories, and their bags.

"This search process is ongoing. We're not just inspecting students but also their belongings to ensure nothing harmful is brought into school," he added.

Mr Yeboah highlighted the importance of educating students about the risks associated with dangerous items, such as gadgets and weapons.

"We are also using this opportunity to educate students about the dangers of bringing such items into school," he said.

He noted that school assemblies have become a crucial platform for school heads to address these concerns and raise awareness.
