Charterhouse Lagos celebrates British education with Abuja reception

Charterhouse Lagos, West Africa’s first British independent school, was officially introduced to the Abuja community at an exclusive evening reception hosted by Richard Montgomery CMG, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria.
The event, held on Thursday at the High Commissioner’s residence in Maitama, brought together key figures from government, business, education, and the diplomatic community.
It marked a significant milestone as Charterhouse Lagos combines over 400 years of British educational heritage with Nigeria’s vibrant potential and future.
Guests were given a glimpse into the school’s vision of providing world-class education to both Nigerian and international students. Richard Montgomery CMG praised the school, calling it an exciting initiative that strengthens educational ties between the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
He highlighted how Charterhouse Lagos blends British tradition with a modern, global outlook, emphasising the school’s potential to raise educational and leadership standards across West Africa.
Having opened its Primary School in September of last year, Charterhouse Lagos has garnered recognition for its international teaching staff, commitment to academic excellence, strong focus on character building, and respect for cultural diversity.
The school is now accepting students for both its Primary School and newly announced Secondary and Boarding School, set to open in September.
The new Secondary School will welcome students in Years 7 to 9, offering exceptional boarding facilities designed to foster academic, social, and personal growth. John Todd, Director of Education at Charterhouse Lagos, stated that the school is committed to creating future global leaders.
“Our dream is to nurture students who are not only academically excellent but also confident, compassionate, and ready for a global future,” he said.
“We have put together an international team of educators, a thoughtful curriculum, and outstanding facilities. Charterhouse Lagos is truly setting a new benchmark for education in Nigeria and the wider region.”
At the reception were Mr. Mark Healy, Head of Secondary School at Charterhouse Lagos; Ms. Nankling Danfulani, Trade Adviser at the UK Department for International Trade; and Ms. Enitan Olufojude, Marketing Manager at Charterhouse Lagos.
Charterhouse Lagos said it is committed to values like integrity, resilience, and service, with a long-term goal of shaping well-rounded leaders who will impact Nigeria and the world.
Admissions for the 2025 school year are now open.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit the Charterhouse Lagos website for more information on enrollment and school tours.
By bringing the best of British education to Nigeria, Charterhouse Lagos is not just opening a school — it is opening doors to a brighter future for its students.
