The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, has called on Kenyans to rally behind the national football team, Harambee Stars, as the country gears up to host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August 2025.

Speaking during the official handover of the Nyayo National Stadium and designated training facilities - Ulinzi Complex and Police Sacco Grounds - to the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Mvurya emphasized the importance of nationwide support for the team as they prepare to represent Kenya on home soil.

"We are here to hand over Nyayo and the two training grounds to the Local Organizing Committee."

"As at know, we are in the final stretch to CHAN. What is important is for the people to come out in large numbers and rally behind the national team," he said.

Mvurya said the tournament is not only a sporting event but also a key economic opportunity for the country.

“CHAN is a catalyst to our economic ecosystem, and we are looking forward to a beneficial season,” he said.

The CS had earlier announced that the tickets will range between Ksh 200, 500 and 1,000 to ensure a large turnout for the continental tournament.

“All Kenyans of all walks are invited. That’s why the tickets are affordable,” he added.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, echoed the importance of national pride and responsibility during the tournament. She urged fans to respect and protect the sports infrastructure.

"We urge all sports enthusiasts to value the infrastructure we have. Let us avoid incidences of extreme celebration and vandalism,” said Tuya.

Harambee Stars are set to open their CHAN campaign against DRC Congo on August 2.
