Chaminade vs. St. Anthony's Lacrosse
In a thrilling CHSAA boys lacrosse matchup on Thursday, April 24, 2025, Chaminade emerged victorious against St. Anthony's with a final score of 11-10. The game, held at Cy Donnelly Field, marked Chaminade's first win over St. Anthony's since spring 2021, breaking a long-standing drought in this highly competitive rivalry.
The tension was palpable as the clock ticked down to the final 14.1 seconds. Chaminade's senior goalie, Kieran Walsh, admitted to feeling the pressure, especially after St. Anthony's mounted a late surge, turning a four-goal deficit into a narrow one-goal game within the last seven minutes. St. Anthony's junior Jacob Johnston initiated the final play, passing to senior midfielder Gary Merrill, whose shot was heroically saved by Walsh.
Walsh's crucial save secured the win for Chaminade. He finished the game with an impressive 12 saves. The victory was especially meaningful for the upperclassmen who had previously experienced losses against St. Anthony's. Faceoff specialist Quinn Ball also played a pivotal role, winning an astounding 22 of 25 faceoffs and scoring a critical goal early in the fourth quarter.
Defensively, Louis D’Agostino and Gavin Duran stood out, while Gavin Fitzpatrick disrupted St. Anthony's plays with four turnovers. On the offensive end, junior James Gillis led the scoring with five goals, supported by Connor Kuttin and Gavin Lynch. Ethan Bramoff showcased his two-way abilities for St. Anthony's, contributing to the Friars' efforts.
The victory holds particular significance as St. Anthony's and Chaminade were ranked 13th and 14th in the nation, respectively, by USA Lacrosse. Despite the loss, St. Anthony's will have an opportunity to rebound against No. 2 Lawrenceville. Chaminade (9-1) is looking forward to their next encounter with St. Anthony’s (7-4) on May 15 for the state CHSAA Class AAA and league title.
