Following the outbreak of armed conflict in Sudan in April 2023, thousands of people have fled the northern, western and eastern regions of Darfur to take refuge in the eastern provinces of Chad, particularly in Sila, Ouaddaï and Wadi Fira. In addition to these massive displacements, this crisis risks causing food insecurity, thereby worsening the living conditions of these populations. Using the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), IOM, in partnership with the National Commission for the Reception and Reintegration of Refugees and Repatriated Persons (CNARR) and the NGO Help Tchad, has counted 273,654 displaced returnees as of April 2025. These people have been accommodated in nearly 94 sites and/or villages spread across the three provinces.
