Central London Chaos: Woman Arrested for Attempted Murder After Car Plows Into Pedestrians

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious incident in central London during the early hours of Sunday morning. The incident involved a car striking pedestrians on Argyll Street in Westminster, resulting in multiple injuries, some severe.
Emergency services responded to reports of the collision on Argyll Street, a busy thoroughfare in Soho, just off Oxford Street, around 4:30 AM. Among the victims, a woman in her 30s was rushed to hospital where she remains in a critical condition. A man in his 50s sustained what have been described as life-changing injuries. Additionally, a second woman, also in her 30s, received minor injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene by Metropolitan Police. She faces multiple charges including suspicion of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm (GBH), dangerous driving, and drink driving. She has since been taken into police custody.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the incident, which occurred in an area known for its nightlife and home to the London Palladium theatre, is not being treated as terrorism-related. Police tape was pictured at the scene as investigations commenced.
DCI Alison Foxwell, from Specialist Crime South, issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward. She stated, "As our inquiries continue, our thoughts are with those injured and their loved ones. While this incident took place in the early hours of the morning, venues in the area were still open, and we believe a number of people will have seen what happened." DCI Foxwell urged anyone who witnessed the collision, or any relevant activity prior to it, to provide information, emphasizing its crucial importance to investigators. Members of the public with information are asked to call 101, quoting reference 1404/19APR.
