Celebrity's Poignant Reflection on Giving and Gaining Revealed

Unilever Nigeria Plc recently celebrated International Women’s Day with an empowering event themed “Give to Gain” and hashtagged #InHerElement, held in Lagos. The gathering provided a unique space for women across the company to feel seen and empowered, moving beyond the daily grind to connect and grow. The atmosphere was intentionally crafted to allow women to stand firmly in their evolving identities, fostering an environment of soft confidence and mutual support.

Attendees indulged in professional headshot sessions, offering a chance to own their presence, alongside relaxing massage sessions and makeup artist services, all contributing to an easy flow of laughter and camaraderie among co-workers. For a few precious hours, the women were not burdened by multitasking but were simply present, enjoying a rare moment of stillness and connection.

The event then transitioned into a profound panel discussion featuring women who have significantly impacted their respective industries. The panel included Adenike Ogunlesi, Non-Executive Director at Unilever Nigeria and founder of Ruff ‘n’ Tumble; award-winning writer and producer, Jadesola Osiberu, founder of Greoh Studios; and Ifedayo Durosinmi-Etti, Founder of Herconomy. The session was skillfully moderated by Zainab Obagun, Head of Corporate Affairs, Communications & Sustainability at Unilever Nigeria Plc, and unfolded as a shared space of truths rather than a formal debate.

Adenike Ogunlesi shared invaluable insights on "structure," describing it as "the invisible backbone of success." She reflected on her mother's influence, which nurtured her creativity and encouraged her to dream without apology. Ogunlesi emphasized that a woman's choices, particularly as a mother, profoundly shape the confidence, character, and future of her children. Her guiding principle, "Give to Gain," was presented not merely as a theory but as a practical approach, highlighting her practice of building systems around her aspirations long before they materialized. She powerfully reminded the audience that growth is a deliberate and intentional process.

Jadesola Osiberu's narrative resonated with themes of resilience. With over a decade navigating the demanding creative industry, she spoke of the grit required to remain steadfast when recognition is slow to come and pressure is intense. Osiberu underscored that true longevity in any field is fundamentally built upon unwavering consistency.

Ifedayo Durosinmi-Etti galvanized the attendees with a call to responsibility, advising that when a woman opens a door for you, it must be treated with honor. She articulated that the most genuine path to personal and collective advancement is to uplift others through excellence and integrity, emphasizing the importance of 'paying it forward'.

Tobi Adeniyi, Managing Director of Unilever Nigeria, reaffirmed the company’s strong commitment to ensuring women are not just present but are influential within the organization. He highlighted the continuous growth and impact of the Shakti Women’s initiative, demonstrating Unilever's dedication to female empowerment.

Beyond the formal speeches, the event left a lasting impression of reassurance, inspiration, and quiet determination. The essence of "being in her element" was redefined not as achieving perfection, but as fostering alignment between ambition and action, values and decisions, and ultimately, between who one is and who one is becoming. As the women bonded over making their own candles, they collectively agreed to embody the principle of 'paying it forward', reinforcing the powerful message that when you give, you truly gain.
