Carlisle United's Head of Recruitment Greg Abbott Leaves the Club

Carlisle United has announced the departure of Greg Abbott from his role as Head of Recruitment. Abbott, who was appointed in May 2022, previously served as the club's first team manager from 2008 to 2013.

Abbott's initial involvement with Carlisle United dates back to 2006 when he was hired as an assistant manager to Neil McDonald. Following McDonald's departure, Abbott stepped in as caretaker manager, securing five wins in ten games before returning to his assistant role under John Ward. When Ward left the club, Abbott was once again appointed caretaker, eventually earning the permanent managerial position. His tenure as manager concluded with his dismissal shortly after the commencement of the 2013/14 season.

Abbott’s departure is not an isolated incident, as Sporting Director Rob Clarkson also recently left Brunton Park, having served less than a year in his position.

In an official statement, Carlisle United expressed their gratitude to Abbott, stating: "Carlisle United Football Club can confirm that Greg Abbott has today left his position as Head of Recruitment. Greg joined United in May 2022 having previously managed the club between 2008 and 2013. The club would like to thank him for all his work and commitment, and we wish him all the best for the future."
