The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has opted to use the consensus method to pick its candidates ahead of the August 16 by-election to fill vacant seats in the National Assembly.

Elections would be conducted in the Ovia Federal constituency in the House

In its bid to pick the candidates, the party asked party leaders in the two localities to pick their choice of candidate.

At an enlarged stakeholders meeting of the State Working Committee, the Edo APC adopted Hon Joseph Ikpea as its sole candidate for the Edo Central Senatorial District.

Barr. Omosede Igbinedion was adopted as the consensus candidate for the Ovia Federal Constituency seat.

Edo APC spokesman, Prince Peter Uwadiae, said the adoption was in line with the party’s commitment to inclusiveness and respect for grassroots leadership.

Attempts to speak to other applicants were unsuccessful.

One of them, who pleaded anonymity, said they were still monitoring the situation.

He said they would still purchase the nomination form.

State Secretary of the party, Lawrence Okah, said the party would not bar anybody from contesting at the primary.
