Former Deputy Director of the Muhammadu Buhari 2019 Presidential Re-election Campaign Committee, Ayiri Emami, paid tribute to the late leader, describing him as a man of integrity and a staunch defender of the rule of law.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ayiri expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the former Nigerian leader.

In his tribute, Emami lauded the late President’s unwavering commitment to the Nigerian project and the founding principles of the All Progressives Congress.

“President Buhari was a man of unmatched integrity and discipline who never compromised on the rule of law,” he stated.

“Even as President, he resisted the temptation to interfere in democratic processes, allowing opposition parties to win in off-season elections conducted during his tenure.”

Reflecting on Buhari’s impact on national development, Emami recalled his contributions to the petroleum sector during his tenure as Minister of Petroleum under General Olusegun Obasanjo’s military regime.

“As Petroleum Minister, he supervised the construction of 21 depots nationwide, expanded pipeline networks, and built storage facilities, including the pipeline connecting Bonny Terminal to the Port Harcourt refinery,” he said.

He also praised Buhari’s achievements as a democratically elected President, citing key infrastructural projects such as the Warri-Itakpe Rail Line and the Second Niger Bridge as lasting legacies of his administration.

“Buhari’s loyalty to the APC and his support for President Bola Tinubu even after leaving office speak volumes about his character,” Ayiri added.

The Itsekiri chief noted that the ethnic group, known for its strong belief in the rule of law and fairness, would always remember Buhari for upholding those values.

“The strong political bond he forged with President Tinubu helped shape the progressive trajectory of our nation. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations,” he concluded.
