Browns predicted to start Deshaun Watson over Shedeur Sanders in wild decision | Sporting News

The Cleveland Browns appear ready to move on from Deshaun Watson.

But one Cleveland radio personality thinks Watson is going to see another start, one that could come at the expense of rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel.

Max Loeb of the show Honor The Land wants the Browns to start Watson in Week 18 of the 2025 season.

"Let's see if we can get another pick for him," Loeb said of the strategy.

He compared Watson to Joe Milton, who the Patriots used extensively in Week 18 before trading him to the Cowboys for a draft pick.

But in this case, it's really not as good a strategy.

The Browns drafted two rookie quarterbacks in April. In order to know whether there's another to be picked in 2026's draft, Cleveland first has to give its rookies ample playing time in 2025.

Week 18, assuming the Browns are out of contention, will be a crucial final evaluation tool for Sanders and/or Gabriel.

Starting Watson over one of them is just a chance for Watson to stunt the development of this franchise once more.

So while the idea of showing Watson off to get a late-round pick for him is slightly appealing, it won't last. By the second half of the season, Cleveland needs to be all rookie QB, all the time.
