Brooklyn Nets' Drew Timme for NBA Summer League MVP?

Published 11 hours ago2 minute read

Gonzaga legend Drew Timme is showing out in the NBA Summer League, averaging 26.0 points on a 62.2 field goal percentage, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steals through two games. That scoring output ranks second in the entire showcase. The 6-10 forward easily looks like the best player out on the floor, with this being his third summer league appearance. Timme made possibly the play of the summer with a between-the-legs pass and then the poster slam on Washington Wizards forward/center Alex Sarr.

During his 30-point scoring affair against the Wizards, he was receiving loud ‘MVP’ chants from the crowd at the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels’ Thomas & Mack Center. The footwork with his post moves will always be perfection, and his motor/overall aggressiveness slider will always be turned all the way up.

Even ESPN personality Kendrick Perkins and his fellow Brooklyn teammate, former BYU Cougars guard Egor Demin, can’t believe their own eyes when watching what Timme’s been able to put together this summer.

Drew Timme should be on some body roster getting quality minutes!!!! And I mean in the rotation heavy.

The talent level at the summer league might be a bit below him at this point in his career, and don’t be surprised if Brooklyn’s front office decides to shut him down early and keep him healthy for training camp in the fall. If they don’t, Timme would easily be the early favorite to be named the Most Valuable Player in Las Vegas. One of the most accomplished college basketball players of all time continues to show that he deserves a lengthy career in the NBA.

The next opportunity for Timme to suit up for the Nets is when his group goes up against fellow Zag, New York Knicks forward Anton Watson, at 3 p.m. PT on ESPN2 on Tuesday, July 15th.
