Breaking Records: Rare Ferrari Daytona SP3 Sells For Astounding $26 Million At Auction

A one-off, highly coveted Ferrari Daytona SP3, identified as model number 599+1, recently commanded an astounding $26 million (approximately £19.1 million) at an RM Sotheby’s auction duringMonterey Car Week. This record-breaking sale officially established it as the highest-priced new Ferrari ever sold at auction, significantly surpassing its initial base price of around £2 million.

Ferrari meticulously crafted only 599 Daytona SP3units for its most esteemed clientele, all of which were pre-sold before production began. This particular car, designated 599+1, stands out as an exclusive addition, custom-designed by Ferrari’s 'Tailor Made' customization squad. Its distinctive aesthetics include a striking black and yellow 'bumblebee' livery that spans the entire body, complemented by yellow accents within the interior, a checkered flag motif, a silver plaque, and innovative ‘Q-Cycle’ fabric upholstery derived from recycled tyres. Furthermore, it marks a significant first for the marque, being the premier Ferrari road car to feature a full-length company logo spelled out in the classic Giallo Modena font across its exterior.

Beyond its unique appearance, the Daytona SP3 is a testament to Ferrari’s engineering prowess. It houses a powerful 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine, delivering an impressive 829 'angry Italian horses' directly to the rear wheels. This formidable powertrain enables the SP3 to achieve 0-62mph in a blistering 2.85 seconds, reach 125mph from a standing start in just 7.4 seconds, and boasts a top speed of 211mph. Ferrari has also described the Daytona SP3 as its 'most aerodynamically efficient' road car. The model itself pays homage to Ferrari's historic 1-2-3 sweep at the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours race, a legendary moment in motorsport history featuring the iconic 330 P3/4.

The successful bid for the SP3 599+1 took place on August 16 inCalifornia. Notably, all proceeds from this monumental sale will be directed to The Ferrari Foundation, a 501(c)3 public charity. This foundation is dedicated to advancing educational programs and supporting community projects worldwide, reinforcing the sale’s philanthropic impact.
