David Jonsson Cast as T'Challa II, the New Black Panther, in Marvel's Black Panther 3

Marvel Studios has officially unveiled David Jonsson as the new Black Panther, confirming that the British actor will portray the adult Prince T'Challa II, also known as Toussaint, in the upcoming Black Panther 3.

The announcement was made during Marvel Studios' Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where director Ryan Coogler introduced Jonsson alongside Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and returning cast members Letitia Wright and Winston Duke. The film is scheduled to hit cinemas on 15 December 2028.

A New Chapter for Wakanda

The character of Prince T'Challa II was first introduced as a young boy during the post-credit scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), where viewers learned that T'Challa and Nakia had a son, Toussaint.

The third instalment is expected to follow his journey into adulthood as he embraces both his royal heritage and the responsibility of becoming Wakanda's next Black Panther. Ryan Coogler will return to direct the film, continuing the story that began with the groundbreaking 2018 original and its 2022 sequel.

Who Is David Jonsson?

Born in London, David Jonsson has quickly established himself as one of Britain's most promising actors.

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), Jonsson first gained widespread recognition for his role as Gus Sackey in the HBO and BBC drama Industry. He later starred in the acclaimed romantic comedy Rye Lane, before earning further praise for his performances in Alien: Romulus, The Long Walk and the prison drama Wasteman, which helped him win the BAFTA Rising Star Award.

Stepping Into an Iconic Legacy

Jonsson's casting marks one of the biggest moments in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Rather than recasting the original King T'Challa following the death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020, Marvel has chosen to continue the character's legacy through his son—a direction that was first established in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The decision allows the franchise to honour Boseman's legacy while introducing a new generation of Wakandan storytelling.
