Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has condemned the latest wave of deadly attacks by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in parts of the state, expressing deep sympathy for the victims and their families.

The governor's reaction follows a string of violent incidents across several communities, including Maiduguri-Damboa Road, Marte, Chibok, Gwoza, and Kala Balge.

Among the tragic events was an improvised explosive device (IED) attack on May 12 along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road that claimed the lives of two staff members of the Damboa Local Education Authority.

It was gathered that the victims were en route to Maiduguri to sit for the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) examination.

Several military personnel and innocent civilians were also killed in the attacks, sparking widespread grief and concern over the worsening security situation.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr. Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum described the attacks as “deeply condemnable,” and vowed continued support for military and security forces combating the insurgents.

“The recent tragic loss of our education staff, gallant troops, and innocent civilians is a painful reminder of the challenges we continue to face,” Zulum said.

“I am more determined than ever to support the military, security agencies, and our volunteer forces in the fight to end terrorism and insurgency in our state.”

The governor also referenced his recent visit to Gwoza, where he met with troops and residents of the Izge community, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to reinforce resilience and ensure the safety of citizens.

However, despite the rising attacks, Zulum urged the people of Borno to remain strong and hopeful. “This is a partial eclipse — and we shall overcome it, Insha Allah,” he assured.

Meanwhile, the governor extended prayers and condolences to the bereaved families and reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the state.
