Borno APC's Bold Move: Nomination Fees Slashed for Women and PWDs

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State has announced a significant reduction in the cost of nomination forms for women and persons with disabilities (PWDs). This strategic move aims to foster broader participation in the upcoming fourth local government elections, which are slated for December 13.

Speaking to journalists in Maiduguri, Bello Ayuba, the APC state chairman, confirmed the party's decision. For women and physically challenged aspirants, the cost of councillorship forms has been set at N250,000, while chairmanship forms will cost N1 million. This represents a substantial 50 percent reduction from the standard fees, which remain N500,000 for councillorship positions and N2 million for chairmanship roles.

Ayuba further elaborated on the rationale behind this fee adjustment, stating that it followed consultations with party colleagues in other states, notably Katsina and Lagos. Additionally, the decision takes into account the unique challenges faced by Borno State, including ongoing insurgency and prevailing economic realities. The chairman underscored that the primary objective of this initiative is to ensure greater inclusivity and to provide women and persons with disabilities with an equitable chance to participate and contest in the forthcoming elections.
