The ninety-seven (97) staff members recalled by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) after the termination of their appointments have been placed on extended probation.

According to a JoyBusiness report, this is because the bank still requires the skills of these employees.

The report noted that this decision comes after the Central Bank’s initial plan to reinstate only a few staff members based on operational needs and skill requirements.

Under the extended probation arrangement, all the recalled staff will be closely monitored and evaluated.

The recall followed a management meeting held on June 26, 2025.

“This is well within the Bank’s authority; the Central Bank can re-engage terminated staff if their skills are deemed essential or if special circumstances warrant it,” a JoyBusiness source was quoted as saying.

The BoG had earlier justified the terminations, explaining that the decision followed a thorough assessment conducted by the Department of Human Resources and Capacity Development.

The Bank cited “considered performance outcomes, alignment with the Bank’s values, and the potential to contribute meaningfully to its strategic objectives” as the basis for the non-confirmation of appointments.

According to earlier reports, 97 individuals received termination letters dated June 19, 2025, with an effective termination date of June 23, 2025.

The affected employees were instructed to return all institutional property and were offered one month’s salary in lieu of notice.
