Bloody Conflict: Seven Dead in Devastating Farmers–Herders Clash in Bauchi

A violent clash erupted on Thursday between farmers and herders in the Lanzai and Dosho communities in Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State, leaving seven people dead and several others injured.

Six persons sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. Dozens of homes and personal properties were also destroyed during the violence.

The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that security operatives have since restored calm in the affected communities. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the command received a distress call at about 9:20 a.m., reporting an attack by suspected Fulani herders on farmers who were applying local fertilizer on their farmlands on the outskirts of Lanzai community.

The initial attack reportedly triggered a reprisal from youths in Lanzai, who mobilised and stormed Dosho, identified as a Fulani settlement. During the retaliatory assault, about 50 huts were set ablaze, with significant damage inflicted on household items and other property in the area.

Following the outbreak of violence, tactical police operatives were deployed to restore order, prevent further escalation, and begin investigations into the incident. The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a full investigation into both the immediate triggers and underlying causes of the clash. He assured residents that those responsible for both the initial attack and the reprisal violence would be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
