Bloodbath in Kebbi: Terrorists Ambush Claims 10 Police Lives in Fierce Gun Battle!

The Kebbi State Government and the Nigeria Police Force have officially confirmed a devastating terrorist attack along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area, which tragically resulted in the deaths of ten police officers and two civilians. The incident, described by Governor Nasir Idris as "most unfortunate" and a "painful and heartbreaking sacrifice," also saw at least 17 terrorists killed during the intense gun battle.

The deadly confrontation occurred on Monday, August 10, 2026, when police operatives intercepted suspected terrorists traversing between Zamfara and Kebbi states. According to Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, the engagement commenced at approximately 9:25 a.m. During the fierce gun duel, the police successfully neutralized 17 members of the armed group and destroyed four of their motorcycles, despite suffering significant casualties themselves.

Governor Idris confirmed the tragic loss during a condolence visit from a high-powered delegation representing the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, led by Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Umar Dada. The Governor highlighted that the fallen officers died valiantly while defending the lives and property of Kebbi citizens and protecting Nigeria's territorial integrity. He assured the bereaved families of sustained government support and emphasized that the sacrifice of security personnel would never be forgotten, pledging necessary intervention and aid from the Kebbi State Government.

Speaking on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, DIG Umar Dada conveyed profound grief over the deaths and extended condolences to Governor Idris, the people of Kebbi State, and the families of the fallen officers. IGP Disu described the loss as painful for both the Nigeria Police Force and the country, acknowledging the ultimate price paid by the officers in their duty to protect Nigerians. The police leadership assured that the Force would intensify efforts to identify, track down, arrest, and prosecute all individuals responsible for the deadly attack, vowing not to relent until justice is served.

Furthermore, DIG Dada commended the Kebbi State Government for its unwavering support and cooperation with the police and other security agencies, recognizing this partnership as crucial to the success of ongoing operations. As a measure to strengthen police presence, boost operational capacity, and enhance protection across the state, he announced the impending establishment of a police squadron in Kebbi State. Following the attack, additional security personnel have been deployed to the affected area to sustain operations and pursue fleeing elements of the criminal group, bringing the area under control.

The remains of the deceased officers have been transported to Birnin Kebbi, while the two injured personnel are receiving crucial medical attention. The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to supporting the bereaved families and honoring the memory and sacrifice of their fallen heroes through sustained efforts to bring perpetrators to justice.
