Black Queens fall to Nigeria's Super Falcons in final pre-WAFCON 2024 friendly - MyJoyOnline
Ghana's Black Queens suffered defeat to Nigeria in their final preparatory game ahead of the delayed 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Kim Lars Bjorkegren's side were handed a 3-1 loss by their West African counterparts in a game played in Morocco on Sunday, June 29.
The Super Falcons opened the scoring in the game after 34 minutes through an own goal, putting them in the lead.
10 minutes after breaking the deadlock, Nigeria were two up after they scored from a penalty kick in the 44th minute.
Ghana went into halftime trailing 0-2 with a mountain to climb.
Six minutes into the second half, Nigeria found their third, extending their lead in the game.
Just when it looked like the Queens were going to end the game against Nigeria without scoring, Alice Kusi scored from the penalty spot to make it 3-1.
The game was the final friendly game for Ghana before their opening game at the WAFCON, which will be staged in Morocco next month.
In the two games earlier, they beat Malawi and Benin.
The Black Queens are looking to win their first-ever WAFCON trophy after failing to win any of the three finals in the past.
