Officials highlighted the growing concern over the sale of potentially hazardous products on e-commerce platforms without proper certification, posing serious risks to consumer safety.
BIS raids Flipkart, Ekart, and Meesho in Andhra Pradesh
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted raids on Flipkart, e-Kart, and Meesho facilities in Mustabad in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. The operation, carried out on 14 July, targeted the sale of uncertified consumer products in violation of mandatory Quality Control Orders (QCOs).
Acting on digital surveillance and intelligence inputs, BIS officials seized a large consignment comprising over 25 categories of goods, including electronics, LED bulbs, toys, and table fans. These items lacked the mandatory BIS certification or the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) mark, a clear breach of Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016.
Officials highlighted the growing concern over the sale of potentially hazardous products on e-commerce platforms without proper certification, posing serious risks to consumer safety. Violations could lead to imprisonment up to three years and fines ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹10 lakh, or more.
The BIS urged consumers to use the BIS Care app to verify certification and report violations. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring only safe, certified products reach Indian consumers through continued enforcement and public awareness efforts.
