Billion-Naira Blow: Court Seizes Tycoon's Lavish Assets in Massive Forfeiture Order

A significant ruling by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Apo, Abuja, on Thursday, resulted in the final forfeiture of assets valued at approximately N8.97 billion linked to businesswoman Aisha Achimugu. The order was issued by Justice Jude Onwugbuzie, following a motion presented by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The assets permanently forfeited to the federal government include a substantial collection of jewelry estimated at N4.645 billion, along with 11 exotic cars collectively valued at N4.293 billion. Additionally, the forfeiture order encompassed $50,000 in cash and a further N30 million in cash. The combined worth of just the jewelry and luxury vehicles alone approaches nearly N9 billion, underscoring the magnitude of this judicial decision.

This forfeiture stands out as one of the most substantial asset forfeiture orders involving a single individual in recent memory. The ruling highlights the ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities, through agencies like the EFCC, to combat financial crimes and recover illicitly acquired assets, channeling them back to the federal government.
