Billie Eilish Calls for Gun Reform Following Global Shootings
Award-winning singer Billie Eilish has intensified her advocacy for gun control, urging fans to take action in the wake of a tragic series of shootings and the anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. On Sunday, December 14, Eilish used her Instagram Story to express her grief and mobilize support for stricter gun policy.
In her post, Eilish highlighted the sobering confluence of events, stating, “Today is the anniversary of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, & we woke up to the news of mass shootings in Australia, at Brown University, & in Brooklyn.” She added, “this is so devastating. my heart goes out to all of the victims & their loved ones,” before issuing a call to action: “raise your voice, work for change, & vote out anyone who’s not willing to reform gun policy.”
The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012, a tragic event that claimed 26 lives, included 20 children aged six and seven. Exactly thirteen years later, December 14, 2025, witnessed another devastating 24-hour period with multiple violent attacks worldwide.
Among the incidents was a mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, where at least 15 people were killed during a Hanukkah celebration. Meanwhile, six teenagers were injured at a birthday party in Brooklyn, New York. Officials are also investigating a fatal attack on Brown University campus in Providence, Rhode Island, which left two dead and nine wounded.
Eilish’s commitment to gun control is long-standing. In 2023, she joined the Artists for Action to Prevent Gun Violence coalition, aligning with influential figures such as Sheryl Crow, Peter Gabriel, and Rufus Wainwright. The broader context of gun violence in the U.S. remains alarming, with the Gun Violence Archive reporting 392 mass shootings so far in 2025.
