The 2025 NBA Summer League tipped off with the California Classic and Salt Lake City games.

The California Classic featured the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors while the Salt Lake City League featured the Memphis Grizzlies, Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz.

Here are some of the best moments from the start of Summer League action.

After the top two overall picks in the 2025 NBA Draft were secured with Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper, the Philadelphia 76ers selected VJ Edgecombe from Baylor University.

Edgecombe joins a guard-heavy rotation in Philadelphia with the likes of Tyrese Maxey, Quentin Grimes and Jared McCain, but his Summer League performance proved why he should get meaningful minutes in his rookie campaign.

Edgecombe showed what 76ers fans should expect with an impressive 28-point, 10-rebound performance in his first outing, where he went up against the No. 5 overall pick Ace Bailey. He shot 13-for-27 from the floor and added four assists, two blocks and a steal to round out his overall statline.

As for Bailey, in his second game vs. the Memphis Grizzlies, he quickly adjusted to the NBA’s speed and athleticism. Bailey demonstrated his versatility with putback dunks, soft shooting touch and quick defensive reads as he finished with 18 points and seven rebounds.

In a back-and-fourth matchup between the Grizzlies and Jazz on Monday, Utah’s Brice Sensabaugh had himself a night to remember.

Sensabaugh went off, scoring 37 points with an efficient 9-for-14 shooting from the field and 6-for-9 from 3-point range. Sensabaugh set a Salt Lake City Summer League single-game scoring record and put the game away with a pair of free throws down the stretch.

Three months ago, LJ Cryer and Will Richard were battling in the NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship game as the Houston Cougars faced the Florida Gators for the 2025 title. The Gators walked away victorious in a tight 65-63 win as Richard shined, scoring 18 points.

Cryer went undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft, while Richard was selected 56th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies and traded to the Golden State Warriors on Draft night.

Despite the loss vs. the Spurs, both Cryer and Richard had solid outings. Cryer scored eight straight at one point in the game and finished with 19 points, while Richard finished the night with 16 points and four rebounds.

Heading into Year 2, Bronny James showed flashes of improvement as he suited up for Summer League action.

In the midst of a busy summer for the Lakers, James tuned out the noise and went to work. He dropped 10 points and knocked down two 3s along with a vicious dunk in the early moments of the game in just 10 minutes of action vs. the Miami Heat.

With the Lakers prioritizing moves on the wings and the interior during free agency, look for James to have a larger impact heading into his sophomore campaign.
