Besiktas is having a very solid season, especially with their performance in the Turkish Super League. Despite having a large fan base, it’s not often that Besiktas reaches the Super League finals. Before this season, the last time was in 2017, and this is only the fourth time in the 21st century that Besiktas has made it to the finals. Young Serbian head coach Dusan Alimpijevic has been phenomenally well received by the fans, but that wouldn’t have been the case if the results hadn’t followed. After finishing second in the regular season, Besiktas defeated Galatasaray 2-0 in the first playoff round, and then eliminated Anadolu Efes 3-2 in the semifinals.

Besiktas managed to somewhat get back into the series with a win at home in Game 3, even though the start of the match wasn’t promising. They allowed their rivals to take a 7-0 lead, but with frenzied support from their fans, they responded with a 17-0 run and never let go of the lead for the rest of the game. At one point, Besiktas went on a 34-5 run, and we can say that the outcome was already decided then, even though Fenerbahce tried to come back — they just couldn’t, as the hosts always had an answer. The best player of the game was Jonah Mathews, who scored 25 points and once again showed that he definitely has the quality to play in the EuroLeague.

Fenerbahce is very close to completing the best season in the club’s history, and they are just one step away from doing so. So far, the team has won the Turkish Cup, and more importantly, the EuroLeague. If they manage to win the Turkish Super League title as well, it would be the first treble in the club’s history. That achievement would be especially impressive considering that even the legendary Zeljko Obradovic never managed to accomplish it with Besiktas. In the Turkish Super League, Fenerbahce has been dominant from the start of the season and had no trouble finishing first in the regular season. In the playoffs, they defeated Turk Telekom in the quarterfinals and Bahcesehir in the semifinals. They currently lead this final series 2-1 and are very close to the title.

We don’t believe the loss in Game 3 will worry Sarunas Jasikevicius’s team too much, but it certainly wouldn’t be good for them to lose Game 4, as some nervousness could creep in. So we expect them to do everything they can to win and move to the brink of the championship. Very little worked for Besiktas in Game 3 — they had some rhythm in the opening minutes but quickly allowed the hosts to come back, take the lead, and keep it out of reach. Devon Hall and Wade Baldwin were the top scorers for Fenerbahçe, each putting up 14 points.

This season, they have faced each other six times, with Fenerbahce being significantly more successful, winning four games. In this series, Fenerbahce currently leads 2-1.

Besiktas has no injury concerns, while for Fenerbahce, Scottie Wilbekin has practically missed the entire season. Tarik Biberovic was also out in Game 3. Due to the league’s foreign player limits, head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius will have to leave out a few players from the squad.

There’s no doubt that Fenerbahce is the more talented team compared to Besiktas, but in the Turkish Super League, home-court advantage plays a major role, and Besiktas fans are known for creating an electric atmosphere—just like in the previous match. Still, Fenerbahce is a highly skilled and experienced team, and we believe they won’t repeat the mistakes from Game 3 and will secure a road victory.
