This horrific event left one woman dead and 29 others injured, some seriously, shattering the festive atmosphere for hundreds of thousands of celebrants. Ashley Schreiber was later seen laying flowers near the scene, mourning the loss.

For Berlin's lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer (LGBTQ+) community, this incident has profoundly shaken a fundamental certainty: that public spaces, intended for protection and celebration, have become zones of deadly threat. While queer life in Berlin has long faced pressure from extremists and Islamists, this attack introduces a new and horrifying dimension of vulnerability.
