Elvis’s requiem mass was held at the Holy Trinity Catholic church in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.
Politicians from the political divide attended the burial, including Babu Owino, Edwin Sifuna, Johnson Sakaja and Tim Wanyonyi.
Before the service, Father John Muragu cautioned against political discourse.
“We are going to respect all of you but we will follow the directions of the church. We acknowledge that Elachi is a politician and we are very sorry for what has happened to your family.
"We have continued to pray for your family. But for the speeches we are going to give this is a funeral mass, so let us give messages of condolences. Let us not politick.”
The legislator noted that Elvis was a healthy child before getting involved in a road accident.
“God gave him to me at a tender time. He was among the young children I cherished.
"Growing up, he never went to the hospital or fell sick. His first time in hospital was this.”
Elachi described Elvis as an introvert who loved football and music.
Looking back at the fateful day her son was in an accident, Elachi said that he did not inform them when leaving the house.
“He was in bed at 10:30am and was called to an errand. When he was coming back, he got a tire burst.”
The politician offered some driving advice to young people, saying:
“Do not use the emergency brakes because the car will skid, and you will find yourself in trouble. Hold the steering and let the car go, hoping it will come to a standstill.”
Elachi noted that her son sustained a brain injury in the accident, while urging mothers to pray for their children.
“Remember to tell your parents when you are going to meet friends,” she said.
Looking back on the day that Elvis died, Elachi said she knew it before the doctors.
She concluded by thanking all the politicians who stood by her during the trying moment, and pledged to do the same.
Weeks ago, veteran politician Cyrus Jirongo lost his daughter, Lorraine Jelagat Jirongo, who died after a short illness.
Jirongo moved mourners to tears recounting their last conversation.
According to the politician, he learned about his daughter’s death while abroad.
Lorraine’s mother, Caroline Kittony, said she fell sick when she was away in India for treatment.
In their last conversation, Jelagat asked her mother how she was doing.
Caroline planned a video call with her daughter and her three grandkids, but it never happened.
