Beast Mode Family Ride: 2028 Mercedes-AMG GT SUV Unleashes 1,153HP for the Kids' Carpool!

The 2028 Mercedes-AMG GT SUV is set to redefine the high-performance family vehicle segment, catering to enthusiasts who appreciate the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe but require additional space for passengers and cargo. Developed entirely in-house by the experts at Affalterbach, a significant first for an AMG SUV, this full-size electric vehicle utilizes the automaker’s advanced AMG.EA high-performance architecture, ensuring it inherits the dynamic qualities of its sedan counterpart. This groundbreaking SUV is expected to arrive at U.S. dealerships in the summer of 2027.

The model lineup for this formidable SUV includes the AMG GT53, the GT55, and the range-topping GT63. Its distinctive and dynamic exterior design features a steep nose, an exclusive grille adorned with vertical bars (four on each side of the illuminated Mercedes star), and active aerodynamic elements. The vehicle's striking proportions are defined by an extended wheelbase, a wide track, powerful shoulders, short overhangs, and a low-slung roofline that elegantly slopes towards an active rear spoiler, which deploys at speeds exceeding 93 mph. Further exterior highlights include prominent power domes on the hood, frameless side windows, practical roof rails, integrated side steps, squared wheel arches, and innovative pop-out door handles—though the latter will require modifications to comply with new Chinese regulations. Wheel options for the GT SUV range from 21 to 23 inches. While its headlights and star-shaped daytime running lights are unique to the SUV, it shares the same sleek taillights and overall rear design with the GT car.

Despite its athletic and sloping silhouette, the AMG GT SUV offers remarkable interior spaciousness. Occupants in the front benefit from ample headroom, while the second row provides surprisingly decent legroom and comfort. This impressive interior volume is a direct result of integrating the flat battery pack directly into the body structure, a design choice that also contributes to a low center of gravity and sporty seating positions throughout the cabin. Rear passengers will enjoy the convenience of adjustable heated seats, and all occupants can take in the surroundings through a panoramic roof.

The cabin is equipped with cutting-edge technology, featuring a prominent 14.0-inch main screen and a 10.2-inch driver's display. An optional separate 14.0-inch display is also available for the front passenger. The SUV runs on the latest Mercedes operating system, which includes a virtual assistant and advanced AI capabilities. Drivers can customize their experience by choosing from various display styles, such as
