BBNaija Star Ilebaye's Shocking Assault: Father Detained Amid Family Drama

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the rescue of Big Brother Naija All-Stars winner, Ilebaye Odiniya, following an alleged physical assault by her father, Emmanuel Odiniya, in the early hours of Saturday, May 9. The incident, which occurred at the Royal Anchor Estate in Wuye, Abuja, garnered widespread public concern after Ilebaye launched a distressing Instagram livestream.
During the viral livestream, the reality TV star was seen with a visibly swollen and battered face, crying and repeatedly pleading for urgent help and to be allowed to leave the residence. In some clips, a man, later identified as her father, Emmanuel Odiniya, was observed attempting to assault her. The disturbing video prompted immediate reactions across social media, with many Nigerians calling for an investigation and intervention.
Responding swiftly to a distress call received around 12:00 a.m., the FCT Police Command deployed a patrol team from Wuye Division, supported by operatives from the Department of Operations. The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the police presence and rescue operation. Upon arrival, officers faced initial difficulties as the residence gate was locked. After several attempts, including reports of "fiercely looking dogs" being used to impede entry, access was finally gained into the compound at approximately 2:30 a.m.
Inside the residence, officers found Ms. Ilebaye Odiniya with visible bruises. She, along with her brothers, was immediately rescued and transported to NNPC Hospital in Abuja for urgent medical attention. Ilebaye reportedly received multiple intravenous drips to stabilize her condition and has since been discharged from the hospital. Following the rescue, Hon. Emmanuel Odiniya was arrested and taken into police custody, where a thorough investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the incident was initiated.
Further details emerged from Ilebaye’s mother, Lami Odiniya, who confirmed that Emmanuel Odiniya has since been released from police custody. Lami explained that the altercation began when Ilebaye visited her father to see her younger brothers and ask questions in anticipation of her 24th birthday, which also falls on May 9. The conversation allegedly escalated when Mr. Odiniya accused Ilebaye of being "engineered" by her mother. This incident has brought to light a fractured family dynamic following the end of the couple's 32-year marriage, with a court having previously granted Mr. Odiniya custody of their two sons, aged 11 and 14.
While the boys were briefly handed over to their mother after their father's arrest, the police later ordered their return to Mr. Odiniya's home by 9:00 a.m., citing the existing court order. Lami Odiniya also took the opportunity to dismiss online rumors suggesting her daughter was under the influence of drugs during the distressing event. Efforts to obtain an official statement from SP Josephine Adeh regarding the father's release were unsuccessful at the time of some reports.
The incident also drew reactions from the Big Brother Naija community. Fellow reality star Tacha strongly condemned the alleged actions, emphasizing that no individual, not even a parent, has the right to assault Ilebaye. Beauty Tukura, another BBNaija alumnus, played a role in rallying support to locate Ilebaye and later assured fans that Ilebaye was "no longer in harm’s way" and safe, noting that the full details of the incident would be shared by Ilebaye herself when she is ready.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on ensuring justice and addressing the complex family dynamics that led to this alarming public incident involving the popular reality television star.
