Bauchi Governor's Loyalty Confirmed: PDP Chair Quashes Defection Buzz

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has strongly refuted what it termed as false, misleading, and irresponsible reports alleging that Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed is planning to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other political party. The party urged the public to disregard these deliberate misinformation circulating on social media and fringe platforms, emphasizing that such claims are baseless.
In an official statement released on Friday, Hon. Sama’ila Adamu Burga, the PDP chairman in Bauchi State, unequivocally stated that Governor Bala Mohammed has no intention whatsoever of leaving the PDP. This assertion was definitively corroborated during a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting hosted by Governor Bala Mohammed on Sunday, January 4, 2026. During this significant gathering, party leaders and critical stakeholders unanimously reaffirmed their unwavering loyalty to the PDP and passed a resounding vote of confidence in Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
The meeting saw the participation of a wide array of top party officials and leaders. These included the Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, members of the State Executive Council, state and local government party executives, elected chairmen of all 20 local government areas, serving members of the House of Representatives, former senators, former speakers, and other influential political stakeholders from across the state. This broad attendance underscored the unified stance of the party leadership.
Hon. Burga further highlighted that a consistent message of support for Governor Bala Mohammed resonated across all party structures and generations. Stakeholders lauded the Governor for his exemplary leadership, courage, humility, patriotism, and steadfast commitment to good governance, not only as the Governor of Bauchi State but also in his capacity as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF). They acknowledged that Governor Mohammed’s principled stance on constitutional order, fairness, and critical national issues has been met with challenges, including harassment, intimidation, and orchestrated media attacks.
However, the PDP chairman emphasized that these pressures have neither diminished the Governor’s resolve nor altered his profound commitment to democratic values and responsible leadership. In response to the overwhelming support, Governor Mohammed expressed his deep appreciation for the vote of confidence and reiterated his complete loyalty to the PDP. He also renewed his dedication to fostering unity, development, and progress within Bauchi State and Nigeria as a whole.
Burga underscored that Governor Mohammed does not make significant political decisions unilaterally, stressing that consultation, inclusiveness, and collective leadership are fundamental core values of the PDP. He firmly stated, “At no time, either privately or publicly, has Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed expressed any intention to defect to the ADC, APC, or any other political party.” While the PDP remains open to constructive engagement with other political parties for the sake of national stability and democratic consolidation, such interactions, he noted, must be based on truth, mutual respect, and democratic norms, rather than on misinformation and speculation. Burga concluded by reiterating that Governor Bala Mohammed remains a loyal, committed, and principled leader of the PDP, deeply rooted in the party’s ideals, asserting, “The PDP remains power to the people.”
