In a poignant moment leading up to the 78th Old-Timers’ Day, the New York Yankees released a touching letter from the 288-game winner on their official X account. This message, shared on Saturday, served as a heartfelt address from John to his fans, former teammates, and the Yankees organization as he battles his health issues.
Reports indicate that Tommy John is currently in hospice care following a recurrence of cancer. His letter therefore functioned as a thank you and a final goodbye to the baseball community. In his message, John expressed profound gratitude: “I want to thank the Yankees organization and the Steinbrenner family for giving me this opportunity to say goodbye to everyone, along with all the friends & fans who followed me throughout my 26-year career.”
He specifically acknowledged the pivotal role of Dr. Jobe, stating, “Thanks to Dr. Jobe, who saved my arm & made it possible for me to continue pitching.
