Barcelona Lands Blockbuster €80M Osimhen Deal - It's 'Done'!

Victor Osimhen's prospects of securing a summer transfer to Barcelona appear to be diminishing as the Spanish champions have reportedly reached a comprehensive €80 million agreement for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon. Osimhen, the prolific Galatasaray striker, had been heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou in recent months, with Barcelona seeking a long-term successor to veteran forward Robert Lewandowski, who is anticipated to depart at the season's end. The Super Eagles star had garnered significant interest from top clubs across Europe and Saudi Arabia following another impressive campaign with Galatasaray. Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, was understood to admire Osimhen, and manager Hansi Flick was keen on bolstering the team's attacking options for the upcoming Champions League season.

However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona swiftly moved to finalize a deal for Gordon. The agreement with Newcastle is valued at €80 million, comprising a guaranteed €70 million fee plus an additional €10 million in add-ons. The England international is scheduled to undergo his medical examination in Spain on Thursday before signing a five-year contract that will extend until 2031. Reports from England suggest that Gordon's weekly wages will escalate to approximately £300,000 once the transfer officially commences with the opening of the transfer window on July 1. Barcelona reportedly accelerated negotiations in the United Kingdom after learning that German giants Bayern Munich and Premier League side Arsenal were also monitoring the winger's availability.

Manager Hansi Flick is believed to view Gordon as an ideal fit for his tactical philosophy, which emphasizes aggressive pressing and rapid transitional football. Gordon enjoyed the most successful season of his career at Newcastle, contributing 17 goals and four assists across all competitions. Ten of those goals were scored in the Champions League, where he emerged as Newcastle's primary attacking threat, despite the club finishing 12th in the Premier League standings.

Despite the impending arrival of Anthony Gordon, Barcelona are still expected to enter the market for a central striker. However, Osimhen may no longer be considered their primary target for this position. The Catalan club is now reportedly focusing its attention on Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez and Chelsea attacker João Pedro as they look to reshape their offensive line ahead of the new season.

Meanwhile, Osimhen continues to be a pivotal player for Galatasaray, having played a crucial role in securing another Süper Lig title for the Turkish club. The Nigerian forward concluded the season with an impressive tally of 22 goals and eight assists in 33 appearances, including seven goals in the Champions League. Galatasaray acted decisively last summer to sign Osimhen permanently after his initial loan spell, tying him to a contract that runs until 2029. Club president Dursun Özbek has consistently maintained that the striker is not for sale, with reports from Turkey indicating that Galatasaray would only entertain offers significantly exceeding €100 million if the player himself actively seeks an exit.
