BAL Sahara Conference Preview: Dakar Edition

The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is set to resume play in Dakar, Senegal, after a two-week break. The competition begins on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. ET.
Al Ittihad from Egypt demonstrated dominance in the Kalahari field, achieving a 5-0 record with an average win margin exceeding 17 points. The defending BAL champions, Petro de Luanda from Angola, are aiming to secure back-to-back titles. US Monastir from Tunisia, the 2023 champions, seeks to reclaim the top position.
Al Ittihad and Rivers Hoopers from Nigeria have already secured their spots as the leading teams from the initial round. The week-long second-round competition in Dakar promises intense matchups. Teams competing in Dakar include ASC Ville de Dakar (Senegal), Kriol Star Basketball (Cape Verde), Petro de Luanda (Angola), and US Monastir (Tunisia).
Key players to watch include:
Abdoulaye Harouna (Niger; ASC Ville de Dakar): A 33-year-old veteran known for his significant impact last season, earning First Team All Defense and Second Team All BAL honors. His versatility makes him a crucial contributor for ASC Ville de Dakar.
Ater Majok (South Sudan; ASC Ville de Dakar): A 7-foot center, previously drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2011, brings a strong presence on both ends of the court.
Firas Lahyani (Tunisia; US Monastir): Known for his athleticism, Lahyani is expected to lead US Monastir, utilizing his dynamic skills to drive the team back to the top.
Childe Dundao (Angola; Petro de Luanda): A key member of the Angolan Men’s National Team and one of the best perimeter defenders in the BAL.
