Atlanta Dream Secure Star Rhyne Howard in Crucial Re-signing
The Atlanta Dream announced Saturday that they are re-signing guard Rhyne Howard, a crucial move that further solidifies the team's core roster. This new contract for Howard joins existing deals with key players Allisha Gray, Brionna Jones, Naz Hillmon, and Jordin Canada, underscoring the Dream's commitment to maintaining a consistent and strong lineup.
Dream general manager Dan Padover emphasized the collective spirit and ambition of the team, stating, "This is a group that believes in Atlanta, believes in each other and is united in the pursuit of a championship." Padover highlighted that these players—Allisha, Brionna, Jordin, Naz, and Rhyne—embody the standard being built in Atlanta, characterized by talent, unselfishness, and an unwavering commitment to winning. He added that their decision to continue building together in the city reflects their belief in the team's vision and culture, which is designed for success with exceptional players and individuals.
The core group, now further strengthened by Howard's re-signing, played a pivotal role in the Dream's highly successful 2025 season. The team achieved historic marks, including 30 wins and an impressive .682 winning percentage, representing the best performance in franchise history. Atlanta secured the No. 3 seed heading into the playoffs but faced an unexpected early exit, being upset in the first round by the Indiana Fever.
Beyond player re-signings, the Dream has also been active in the trade market, making a significant acquisition on Monday by reaching a deal with the Chicago Sky for Angel Reese. However, the team will see a notable departure as Brittney Griner has signed a one-year contract with the Connecticut Sun.
Rhyne Howard, the No. 1 pick in the 2022 draft, has been a standout performer for the Dream. Last season, the 6-foot-2 guard, who had a distinguished collegiate career at Kentucky, averaged 17.5 points, 4.6 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. Her contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including three All-Star selections with the Dream and a spot on the 2025 All-Defensive team, further cementing her status as a foundational piece for Atlanta's championship aspirations.
